Tasting Notes

WA97

With only about 100 cases produced each year, finding a bottle of the 2015 Cote Rotie la Landonne will prove much harder than drinking it. It`s indeed a terrific wine but a bit closed and cedary at this particular moment, the 40% new oak standing out on the nose. But this cuvée has a long track record of excellence, so expect it to blossom with time in the cellar. It`s concentrated and powerful but amazingly light on its feet, with firm, ample tannins that manage to convey a sense of ripeness as well. Tar, black olive, cassis and espresso elements all speak to the grape (100% Syrah) and the single lieu-dit origin.

WS96

This has a warm feel, featuring plum and blackberry compote flavors infused with anise, fruitcake and violet notes. A light ganache hint throughout shows flickers of cast iron and olive. Displays lovely range, with the iron minerality really blossoming through the finish. Best from 2020 through 2040. 300 cases made.

The Winery

Delas Frères

Under the inspired leadership of winemaker/ administrator Jacques Grange, who has carte blanche authority from the proprietors, the Louis Roederer/Deutz Champagne Firm, Delas has been on a fabulous qualitative roll for over a decade. They have enjoyed some great successes.
– Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

As a wine estate located in northern part of France’s Rhône Valley, Delas Frères is an estate known for its Syrah-dominant wines with the Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Crozes-Hermitages designations. Although the Delas family has been making wine since 1835 in the Rhône Valley, it was not until 1924 that they took the current name of the estate. In 1993, the Rouzaud family, owners of Louis Roederer, acquired both Delas Frères and Champagne Deutz. The family has parcels throughout the Rhone valley, most notably being the Domaine des Tourettes in Hermitage which is famously located on the steep granite part of the esteemed Hermitage hill. Additionally, they producer has a 45 acre vineyard in Crozes-Hermitage as well as a range of single vineyard wines from contract growers throughout the valley.
