Firm, dense and chewy, with a wall of extracted tannins and flavors of dark berry, mocha and blackberry amid a loamy earth and crushed rock minerality. The fruit pushes through on the finish against clinging tannins. Drink now through 2030.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Oakville is from the well-known McWilliam Oakville Vineyard, made famous by Nils Venge when he made wine at Villa Mt. Eden from this site. It has rich, broad, but velvety tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and up-front drinkability (which is somewhat surprising), but gorgeous seductiveness and plenty of blackcurrant and black cherry fruit. This full-bodied, precocious and lusty style should drink well for 10-15 years.

When Gavin Newsom first moved to San Francisco he opened a wine store called PlumpJack, and filled the store with wines he loved. The name Plumpjack is inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most unforgettable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff; a jolly, plump and proud knight that spent most of his time drinking a The Boar’s Head Tavern. Newsom quickly discovered that he especially loved big juicy California cabernet, and was devoted to create his own winery with his pal Gordon Getty that was commitment to crafting wines of the highest quality, and celebrates the convivial spirit of its namesake. Situated on truly great terroir in central Napa Valley, they founded their winery on the premise that wine is one of life’s great pleasures and should be enjoyed as often as possible.
