Tony Soter`s Cabernet Sauvignon has been a model of consistency. The awesomely rich 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon is another spectacular example of this splendid vintage. It possesses an opaque purple color, a wonderful sweetness, full body, and layers of cedary, mineral, and spice-tinged black berry and cassis fruit. Although there is a boatload of tannin, it is sweet and well-integrated. The finish lasts for nearly 30 seconds. This dazzling Cabernet Sauvignon gets my vote as the finest Cabernet Sauvignon Tony Soter has yet made at Etude.
Based in the Carneros region of California’s Napa Valley, Etude is a Pinot Noir-dominant producer with a focus on musical expression. Founded in 1982, a year before the Carneros AVA was officially founded, by Tony Soter, the winery was acquired in recent years by Treasury Wine Estates. Etude wines are unique because, as opposed to the rest of Napa Valley, the Carneros sub-region is significantly cooler thanks to breezes from the San Pablo Bay, and can grow delicate, bright, and balanced styles of Pinot Noir. Although their flagship is Pinot Noir, the winery also produces bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from Rutherford and St. Helena as well as Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
