During the Wine Boom of the 1970s in California, a young Kathryn Kennedy decided to devote her life to producing premium Cabernet Sauvignon in Saratoga. After attending the viticulture program at famed wine studies school, University of California at Davis, Kennedy began preparation for her 7 acres of vineyards. By 1979, her brand and winery had been established and she hired Bill Anderson as her advisor and first winemaker. The flagship wine became the Estate Cabernet which was the only wine in production until 1988. This age-worthy bottling was limited to 600 cases per year, and solidified Kathryn’s reputation as one of the top producers in the Santa Cruz Mountains. After her passing in 2009, her son Marty Mathis took over as winemaker and owner, and helped grow production size of these valued bottlings.
