This property, which has benefitted enormously from tremendous investments from the Rothschild family that owns Lafite, has turned out a dense purple-colored wine in 2005. Offering broad, expansive, supple and silky tannin as well as loads of Asian plum sauce, blackcurrants, and sweet cherries, this wine is seductive, medium to full-bodied, and luscious. This successful effort from the Rothschilds should continue to drink well for at least another two decades.
Dark in color, almost black, with beautiful aromas of spices, blackberry and milk chocolate. Full-bodied and very silky, yet tannic, with a wonderful texture. This is long and caressing. Gorgeous. Best after 2015.
“It would have been nonsense not to acquire such a great neighboring vineyard.”
–Baron Eric de Rothschild
Previously known as Duhart-Milon-Rothschild, Château Duhart-Milon is a winery located in the Pauillac appellation of the Medoc in Bordeaux. It was ranked as a fourth growth in the 1855 Classification of the Medoc, but is considered one of the most elegant and powerful wines in its category. The estate is owned by the illustrious Lafite Rothschild, operates the entire 180 acre vineyard block located on the famous gravel and limestone soils which neighbor Château Lafite-Rothschild. The 30,000 case producing château produces wine for a second label called Moulin de Duhart and on occasional vintages, a third wine called Baron de Milon. Ironically, after the 1855 Classification the quality of Duhart-Milon wines declined, but since the 2000 vintage that was released with the young vines, the wines have been held to a superior standard and thoroughly enjoyed by critics.
