Groth's 1985 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has consistently scored between 96-100 on six separate tastings. It was the winner of its flight in one tasting, and was undoubtedly the "wine of the vintage" for 1985 California Cabernet Sauvignon. Never as backward as many of its peers, it has always revealed a sweet, expansive, black-cherry and vanillin-scented, complex nose, as well as lavishly rich, full-bodied flavors that coat the palate with extraordinarily pure fruit, ripeness, power, and extraction.
“As a family, we are dedicated to producing the best wine that a vintage will allow. All of our resources, our property and the skills of our employees, are dedicated to this objective. We believe that if we make great wine, success will follow.” -Dennis Groth, Proprietor
Dennis and Judy Groth purchased 121 acres in Oakville in 1981 and one year later they established and crushed the first grapes for Groth Vineyards & Winery. By 1984, they were producing 30,000 cases of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc and were quickly gaining recognition as an outstanding producer coming out of Napa Valley.
Fast forward to the present and Groth is a continuously growing namesake in Oakville. With neighboring vineyards such as Plumpjack, Screaming Eagle, and Silver Oak, the winery has built a superior reputation for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines that are bold and true to the appellation. Benchmark Wine Group is honored to share the wonderful expression of Napa Valley that is Groth.
